In nearly 30 years on the air she has championed the latest new and up-and-coming artists and featured new & exclusive music in a variety of genres, including UK & US House, Hip-Hop, Soul, R’n’B, Urban Gospel and Garage. She was one of the very earliest champions of Grime, giving first air plays to those who would go on to become some of the biggest names on the scene today.
Jenny spent much of her career on Choice FM (now Capital Xtra) where her silky smooth voice and enormous record collection earned her the moniker ‘Lady of Soul’ with some also referring to her as ‘The Queen of Slow Jams’. Her shows, The Hype and The Slowdown Zone became must-listens among young Londoners wanting to hear new sounds and exclusive tracks. Completely self-produced, her show was the longest-running 5-days-a-week programme of its kind on commercial radio in the UK.
Jenny also found time to present The Sunday Session, reloading classic anthems, predicting future classics and answering listeners’ real life dilemmas.
In 2013 Jenny was headhunted by Heart FM to take over the networked Late Show, broadcasting to 9 million+ listeners nationwide each week.
Her importance to British urban music became apparent in 1997 when UK boyband Damage dedicated a song to her on their debut album as well requesting her to back announce the track. In 2017 her legendary status was cemented further when Stormzy invited Jenny to voice an interlude on his hit debut album, Gangs Signs & Prayer. In 2022 he paid Jenny the ultimate compliment by inviting her to participate in the video to “Mel Made Me Do It”. In the emotional final scene, Stormzy places Jenny in his pantheon of Black Britons alongside the likes of author Malorie Blackman, footballer Ian Wright and DJ Jazzie B.
Throughout her career, Jenny has been in great demand for voiceover work and personal appearances at commercial, corporate and private events.
