Growing up in Worcester, Max quickly developed a passion and strong knowledge of American sports with annual trips to the US to attend basketball camps, a journey that culminated in a place at the established Gran Canaria Basketball Academy before university. After achieving a First Class Honours degree in Sports Journalism, his interest in American sports from a young age led to written features and online presenting at the Guardian, including an NFL review column alongside Nicky Bandini and documentaries about NBA legends Muggsy Bogues and Steph Curry. He co-hosted talkSPORT2’s first ever basketball programme alongside Andy Brassell and regularly appears on talkSPORT’s ‘Hawksbee & Jacobs’ show. He co-hosted all five seasons of Major League Baseball’s YouTube show ‘Bases Covered’, presented for Amazon Prime’s social channels at the US Open and has also hosted and reported for Sky Sports’ NBA coverage.
Since 2021, Max has been co-presenter and commentator for the UTS Tour, a global tennis competition created by Patrick Mouratoglou that has twice been won by world number five Andrey Rublev. Their broadcast partners include Discovery+, Eurosport and Tennis Channel. Max is a matchday presenter for the Aston Villa men’s and women’s teams, where he interviews current and former players and speaks to fans both inside and outside Villa Park for broadcast on stadium screens and VillaTV. He also appears as a studio host on CharltonTV for the League One side and anchors MLB’s Trafalgar Square Takeover during the London Series.
